About The Position

Joby is developing a piloted air taxi for urban transportation and is in the final stages of FAA certification, scaling manufacturing for commercial service in the US and Dubai. The company is seeking an experienced and motivated Hand Layup Technician to join their manufacturing team. This role is crucial for fabricating parts by precisely cutting, placing, and molding composite materials, ensuring proper ply orientation, consolidation, and adherence to quality standards. Technicians will interpret technical drawings and use hand tools, and proficiency in vacuum bagging and knowledge of curing operations are essential. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
  • Lifting of 50 lbs.aided or unaided throughout the day.
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials and able to become certified to wear a respirator.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Repetitive motion of manual work
  • Ability to become forklift, crane, or equipment certified

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience or applicable wet-lamination experience
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tooling prep operations in preparation for lamination.
  • Prepare and organize composite materials in preparation for lamination.
  • Apply composite materials onto molds or tooling surfaces using techniques like hand layup or automated processes.
  • Ensure proper ply orientation, ply thickness, and material consolidation is achieved.
  • Proficiency in vacuum bagging techniques for composite layup operations.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Basic use of computers for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
