Requirements

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • 3+ years of related experience (including graduate work) in the design, development, and flight of electric propulsion systems, and at least 5 years specifically related to Hall thrusters.
  • Established member of the electric propulsion technical community.
  • Domain expert in one or more areas of electric thruster development.
  • Proven experience in the electric thruster development lifecycle.
  • An understanding of low-cost electric thruster manufacturing and acceptance testing
  • Leadership or management experience as well as a history of mentoring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful candidates in this role typically have 10+ years in the design, development, and flight of electric propulsion systems
  • Ph.D in a field and with a thesis topic relevant to the development of Hall thrusters

Responsibilities

  • Creates the overall plan for the development of a low-cost Hall thruster
  • Establishes and leads the Hall thruster development team
  • Responsible for the overall design architecture of a Hall thruster
  • Manages the Hall thruster test facility development
  • Develops the Hall thruster verification and validation plan, including any additional model development required
  • Develops the manufacturing and test plans to produce a low-cost Hall thruster
  • Supports the propulsion system in the development of a Hall thruster subsystem
  • Collaborates with other subsystem team members, in particular feed system and power electronics engineers, for the development of other Hall thruster subsystem components
  • Develops the roadmap and plans for future In Space Systems electric propulsion developments
