About The Position

The duties and responsibilities of this position include assisting patients and providers with coordination of referrals, obtaining authorizations and scheduling. This position is also responsible for understanding benefits coverage and ensures the patient’s care is coordinated.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Customer service experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of insurance coverage and Medical Necessity policies preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical records software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes referrals for patients and coordinates with referring and receiving practices and/or departments.
  • Monitor and check assigned Athena boxes and other assigned boxes coverage.
  • Ensures all related reports, labs, and demographics are sent to the outside facility prior to their appointment.
  • Reviews to ensure all forms are completed, properly identified, and signed, and that all necessary information is in the EHR.
  • May coordinate and prepare financial estimates for patients.
  • Obtains all authorizations as needed.
  • Directs patients to providers in their insurance plan.
  • Reviews benefits and educates patients on insurance coverage.
  • Coordinates and schedules surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, or other services within various departments with internal and ancillary providers.
  • Reviews schedules and confirm schedules are accurate, and time is properly allocated.
  • Follow up on all referrals to ensure no care gaps.
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
