About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The gymnastics coach at the Dunigan YMCA provides instruction and encouragement and supervises activities related to athletic development and gymnastics training in correct techniques, spotting, tumbling other skills, and day-to-day interaction with parents for children ages 10-11 with various backgrounds and abilities. The YMCA provides training for those interested in learning to teach gymnastics. The gymnastics instructor at the Dunigan YMCA serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community. Requirements

CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.
Child Abuse Prevention training is required before/on the first workday.
Ability to lead sports practices.
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading sports practices, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Responsibilities

Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
Complete required abuse risk management training.
Adhere to the procedures associated with managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
To teach sports through a game-based approach and effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each team member.
Welcome each child and their parents at the start of each class.
Be aware that each child’s physical and emotional maturity, personality, background, and motivation are different.
Supervise the players before, during, and after practices and games.
To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, giving each child an equal opportunity to participate.
Communicate with other staff to promote proper sport-specific techniques.
To teach players multiple playing positions of the sport and ensure equal playing time in each game.
Communicate any questions or concerns with the Gymnastics Coordinator, Sports coordinator, and Sports Director.
To serve as a positive role model to the players, parents, and fellow coaches by following all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and coaching consistency with the Y.
