About The Position

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Gym Supervisor to join our team.  The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  As the Gym Supervisor, you have the opportunity to build relationships with members, ensure all activities run smoothly and ensure members are using facilities and equipment in the proper manner. You will also facilitate gym use, including but not limited to set-up, monitoring and tear down of sports leagues and/or special events. The Gym Supervisor oversees the branch operations and daily administration, ensuring staff and members are adhering to YMCA policies and practices. Provides a quality experience to members and participants focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.

Requirements

  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • You have a high school degree or equivalent
  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen and YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications (preferred)
  • You have a positive attitude and previous experience working with diverse populations
  • You have demonstrated maturity, sound judgement and decision making skills
  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Able to complete Child Abuse Prevention training on first day and other online or in-person training as required
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You are at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

  • Minimum of 18 years of age or older.
  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Knowledge and skills in programs and related equipment, and the ability to instruct members in techniques
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the gym space to ensure the safety and well-being of members.
  • Ensure members are using the facility and equipment in a proper manner.
  • Connect, interact, and develop positive relationships with members.
  • Create an enjoyable and welcoming environment.
  • Understand and actively practice our commitment to the Health Seeker by serving, building relationships, and connecting with members who struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in program activities.
  • Provide orientations to members of all fitness levels.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
  • Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
  • Staff are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
