About The Position

The Gym Monitor is responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for participants using the basketball gym facilities.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 16.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, with a positive and proactive attitude.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to accommodate gym hours and program schedules.
• Certifications required within 60 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen.
• Ability to complete the following within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention training; Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the basketball gym during open play and organized activities to ensure compliance with YMCA policies and safety guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and orderly environment, including equipment setup and storage.
• Provide assistance and support to gym participants, including answering questions, enforcing rules, and resolving conflicts or disputes as needed.
• Address concerns and feedback from participants in a professional and courteous manner.
• Inspect and maintain basketball equipment, including hoops, balls, and other accessories.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate staff member to ensure the safety and functionality of equipment.
• Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies or injuries that may occur in the gym.
• Administer basic first aid as needed and contact emergency services if necessary.
• Ensure that appropriate safety protocols are followed at all times.
• Promote YMCA programs and services to gym participants, encouraging engagement and participation in additional activities.
• Distribute information about upcoming events, programs, and membership opportunities to interested individuals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
