Plumber Position Summary The Authority is currently recruiting a Plumber to join Georgia World Congress Center. The Plumber is responsible for performing skilled plumbing work to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures throughout the Georgia World Congress Center campus and related Authority facilities. This role ensures that all work complies with applicable codes, safety standards, and GWCCA policies while supporting a high-traffic public environment. Ideal candidates will share our values of authenticity, accountability, and teamwork while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Candidates under final consideration will be required to undergo a criminal history evaluation and drug screening prior to employment. Plumber Physical Demands The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and squat for extended periods of time. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grip, and operate tools, equipment, and controls. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (or more with assistance). Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to access plumbing systems in ceilings, rooftops, or elevated areas. Must be able to work in confined spaces, including crawl spaces, utility rooms, and tight mechanical areas. Requires good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and grip strength. Ability to see clearly (with or without corrective lenses) to read gauges, blueprints, labels, and instructions. Ability to hear and communicate effectively in environments with background noise. Capable of working in varying temperatures, including hot, cold, damp, or wet conditions. May require prolonged periods of physical exertion during repairs, emergency response, or high-volume event operations. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.

Requirements

  • Ability to work an irregular schedule to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • May be required to work or respond nights, weekends, holidays during events or emergencies.
  • Knowledge of state and local building codes, fire, environmental, ADA and safety codes relating to building construction and the plumbing trade.
  • Ability to operate, maintain and apply the tools, materials and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Ability to evaluate information against a set of plumbing standards and verify that it is correct
  • Ability to Identify and clarify the nature of plumbing problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, drawings and specification requirements to install and repair plumbing systems.
  • Ability to plan, organize and control the use of resources to build repair and construct plumbing projects.
  • Self-leadership and motivational skills; strong initiative in completing work assignments.
  • Ability to identify problem areas and execute inspections on a continuous basis in order to stay on top of developing problems in need of attention.
  • Ability to decide whether to replace defective equipment i.e., backflow devices, faucets.
  • Ability to analyze plumbing, mechanical difficulties, i.e., hot water migrating into cold water lines, roof leaks, etc.
  • Ability to determine the nature and source of the problem and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to use portable power tools, stationary power tools, plumbing tools, forklift, man lift, concrete tools, etc. Familiar with the standard safety practices for the operation of such equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a computer at a basic level, i.e., email, internet searching, Word and Excel.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years plumbing experience in a commercial or institutional setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of College or Technical School degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with a commercial facility demonstrating operational and project planning knowledge is a plus.
  • Forklift Operator certification and/or Lift Operator Certificate preferred.
  • State Master Plumber, Class II, Non-restricted license or Certification from Technical school in related field a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, install, repair, and inspect plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment (e.g., domestic water, drains, fixtures, valves, pumps).
  • Diagnose plumbing issues and perform repairs or replacements in accordance with code requirements.
  • Operate and maintain plumbing tools, equipment, supplies, and storage in compliance with safety standards.
  • Use computerized maintenance systems to track work orders, parts usage, and service history.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training programs.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other maintenance personnel regarding operational issues and needed repairs.
  • Notify appropriate staff of equipment or system deficiencies requiring action.
  • Responds to emergencies both during and after hours to ensure safe and operational condition of equipment and buildings, and an environment conducive to quality instruction.
  • Follow applicable State & Local plumbing codes, or-OSHA codes. Follow State & Federal laws pertaining to personal, equipment, and product safety. Ensure that safe & proper maintenance, repair, and cleaning procedures are followed, for protection self, other employees, and facility users.
  • Perform work order requests utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Accurately documents and completes administrative paperwork as required.
  • Comply with The Authority policies and procedures associated with such programs as risk management, safety, and emergency management.
  • Maintain an ethical and professional image when interacting with internal and external customers in to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other assigned engineering, maintenance, or project work necessary for the operation of GWCCA facilities.
