About The Position

Trail West Lodge exists to provide guests with the most meaningful family vacation ever. The Trail West team is looking for high capacity and fun-seeking ministers of the gospel who desire to serve on camp staff. As a staff at Trail West Lodge, we prioritize professional, personal and spiritual development for all team members & we are committed to providing a high level of hospitality to all our guests. As Young Life's only nationally run family camp, we host families from all over the country during the summer, with facilities and programs designed to invite guests into a deeper relationship with Jesus and greater involvement with the Mission of Young Life. Family Camp operations at Trail West are unlike anything else in Young Life camping. Our guests are often high-capacity, influential leaders with high expectations for service. During the spring and fall, we host Christian retreats and conferences from churches and para-church organizations. We are a seasonal operation, open from March - November and using the winter months as project season. Trail West is located just outside of in Buena Vista, Colorado. Though Buena Vista is a small town, it has all your necessities and a lot of outdoor activities to explore.

Responsibilities

  • Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus
  • With direction from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Foster an environment where department staff have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of their personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Prepare and lead bible studies/devotionals for department staff on a routine basis.
  • Establish a department posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Exemplify guest-focused service and act as a pace-setter for camp staff in providing attentive hospitality.
  • Perform hosting duties regularly, both during the summer and school season camping seasons.
  • Supervise the training and scheduling of staff that have hosting responsibilities.
  • Serve in the role as camp resource for the summer assigned staff and attend morning meetings regularly in the summer.
  • Build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.
  • Ensure department staff demonstrate the importance of their interpersonal relationships with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors and promote a healthy community.
  • Foster interdependent relationships with leaders of other departments at camp and lead the Guests Services team in building bridges with other departments.
  • Pursue relationships with summer assigned staff and families and the leadership of school-season guest groups.
  • Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry through Guest Services.
  • Develop and equip staff to participate in comprehensive stewardship of Guest Services.
  • Support a culture of safety at camp for staff, guests, volunteers and visitors.
  • Maintain an appropriate staffing level, both paid and volunteer, to efficiently support summer and school season Guest Services responsibilities.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for the program, special program and housekeeping mission units at camp.
  • Evaluate the school season calendar to maximize ministry and financial impact.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Foster department staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process as well as other training and development opportunities.
  • Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of supervised Guest Services and Housekeeping staff.
  • Maintain a pipeline of potential Guest Services staff that includes people from a diverse background.
  • Engage with Senior Leadership to expose Guest Services staff to broader Young Life initiatives.
  • Recruit, hire and train the Housekeeping supervisor.
  • Lead department staff in the execution of daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations. This includes rides, activities, recreation, program support, audio- visual systems, medical and housekeeping.
  • Advocate for innovative improvements to the areas listed above.
  • Equip the Housekeeping Supervisor with intentional, well-informed support and direction.
  • Respond aggressively to solve problems that negatively impact guests.
  • Participate in structured, year-long training process with peer resource coach
  • Attend annual departmental training
  • Achieve certification as a Challenge Course Operator through Young Life’s national training.

Benefits

  • This position is eligible for Young Life's Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). This is a geographically based pay adjustment meant to compensate staff for residing in an area that is more expensive than the national average. In Buena Vista, COLA is at 7%.
  • In addition to the COLA, this position is eligible for a monthly housing stipend.
