About The Position

Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate. We are currently seeking summer temporary Guest Engagement Crew Member for the Space Center Houston activation zone at FIFA Fan Fest (Offsite Location) to play a key role in delivering an exciting, safe, and memorable guest experience during FIFA Fan Fest events hosted in Houston. Crew Members serve as frontline ambassadors, supporting event operations, assisting guests, managing crowd flow, and upholding Space Center Houston’s commitment to world-class hospitality while celebrating global soccer culture. This role requires enthusiasm, adaptability, and a guest-first mindset in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated reliability with strong attendance and punctuality standards required for event-based operations.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to learn and effectively communicate event-related information to both small and large groups.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and sound reasoning in guest interactions and operational decisions.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays up to 10 hours per shift.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Ability to move efficiently through large crowds and high-traffic areas.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to individuals and groups for extended periods.
  • Work performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to heat, humidity, rain, or cold.
  • Frequent interaction with large groups of guests in a dynamic, public-facing environment.
  • Exposure to varying noise levels due to live programming and crowd activity.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in customer service, hospitality, events, or a related field.
  • Experience working large-scale events, festivals, or sporting events.
  • Multilingual abilities (Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, or other languages a plus).
  • Comfort working with large crowds and in high-energy environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a professional ambassador representing Space Center Houston and NASA Johnson Space Center to guests from around the world.
  • Provide guest support to international visitors from diverse cultures and backgrounds, demonstrating patience, respect, and cultural awareness.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled shifts, pre-shift briefings, and assignments.
  • Proactively welcome, assist, and engage guests to enhance their overall Fan Fest experience.
  • Provide clear directions, event information, and wayfinding support.
  • Assist guests with day planning, schedules, amenities, and activity locations.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions or concerns, escalating issues as needed.
  • Support crowd flow, queue management, and capacity monitoring across Fan Fest zones.
  • Work in assigned areas that may rotate throughout the day (entry points, fan zones, viewing areas, activations).
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of assigned areas.
  • Assist with event programming, interactive experiences, and high-volume guest movement.
  • Follow all safety, emergency, and evacuation procedures.
  • Monitor guest behavior and report safety concerns to leadership.
  • Assist guest/staff during urgent or emergency situations as directed.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow crew members, supervisors, and cross-departmental teams.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable to changing event needs, schedules, and assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support successful event operations.
