About The Position

The Group Pre-Owned Manager is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the profitability, inventory health, and operational efficiency of the used vehicle department across the entire group’s multi-island operations. This role serves as the critical bridge between high-level group strategy and store-level execution, ensuring that acquisition, reconditioning, and merchandising standards are optimized across all rooftops. In alignment with the Tony Group’s vision to be “the best place to work and the best place for our guests to do business,” the Group Pre-Owned Manager provides leadership that fosters a culture of accountability and excellence. Reporting directly to the Pre-Owned Director, this role collaborates with the Pre-Owned Buyer Supervisor and Assistant Managers to ensure acquisition guidelines are met while actively supporting deal structuring and closing to guarantee a seamless guest experience.

Requirements

  • Financial Acumen: Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data, market trends, and P&L statements.
  • Negotiation: Expert-level ability to structure complex deals and close sales while maintaining profitability.
  • Organization: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and modern Dealership Management Systems (DMS) and inventory tools (e.g., vAuto).
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 3 years of automotive sales management experience.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field; 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in high-volume automotive sales.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sales Operations Goal Alignment: Collaborate with General Managers, the Variable Operations Director, and the Pre-Owned Director to implement policies that drive store performance and align with group-wide objectives.
  • Forecasting & Performance Integration: Partner directly with General Managers (GMs) and General Sales Managers (GSMs) at each location to establish, monitor, and execute rigorous annual and monthly sales forecasts. Actively drive store-level strategies to ensure that volume, gross profit, and expense objectives are consistently attained or exceeded.
  • Inventory Ecosystem: Oversee group-wide inventory management, focusing on optimal stocking levels, minimizing aging, and maximizing market-leading turn rates.
  • Marketing Synergy: Partner with the Marketing Director to deploy effective, ROI-driven, and compliant marketing strategies for the pre-owned segment.
  • Transactional Leadership: Maintain a "hands-on" presence by actively participating in appraising, structuring, negotiating, and closing high-value deals.
  • Appraisal Authority: Serve as the primary "Appraisal Desk" authority, ensuring all vehicle valuations are structured in accordance with current market data and book guidelines.
  • Guest Advocacy: Support sales associates and managers in complex transactions to ensure every interaction reflects transparency, trust, and the Tony Group’s service standards.
  • Mentorship: Lead, coach, and motivate sales managers and associates to achieve peak performance through regular feedback and professional development.
  • Talent Management: Work with the Pre-Owned Buying Supervisor and Assistant Pre-Owned Manager to oversee the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of associates to ensure staffing levels meet market demands.
  • Training Excellence: Develop and implement training programs focused on sales effectiveness, product knowledge, and guest retention.
  • Evaluations: Perform continuous coaching and mentorship for managers and associates to foster a culture of professional and personal growth.
  • Cost Control: Closely monitor reconditioning expenses and departmental personnel costs across all locations to ensure fiscal responsibility and protect front-end gross profit.
  • Compliance: Oversee disciplinary actions and adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
  • Procurement Strategy: Work directly with the Pre-Owned Buying Supervisor to achieve acquisition targets and maintain a robust team of buyers.
  • Market Acquisition: Support the Director in digital and physical auction bidding and refine "street purchase" (Private Party Acquisition) programs to lower average cost-to-market.
  • Recon Audit: Audit the reconditioning process at each location to ensure units are "front-line-ready" within a strict 3-to-5-day window.
  • Workflow Optimization: Coordinate with the Assistant Pre-Owned Manager to expedite inventory flow and reduce time-to-market.
