About The Position

The Big Futures Team creates innovative programs and events that inspire exploration, elevate youth voices, and prepare young people for a successful future. By fostering belonging, strengthening mentoring connections, and expanding access to education, career, and entrepreneurial opportunities, we empower youth to build social capital and develop lifelong skills. The Group Mentoring Coordinator is responsible for designing, facilitating, and evaluating group and cascade mentoring experiences for youth of varying ages. This role ensures high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming that fosters strong relationships, builds skills, and supports long-term engagement in Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC). The Coordinator works directly with mentors, mentees, schools, and community partners to deliver safe, supportive, and engaging group environments. They coordinate program design, session planning, facilitation, evaluation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to align with organizational priorities and youth development best practices. This role will oversee the implementation of the growth of the program including Grad Coaches (High School, a Middle School group mentoring Program and a High School Bigs program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Youth Development, Education, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience) or High school diploma or GED with at least four years of relevant experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in youth programming, mentoring, group facilitation, or related fields.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Strong understanding of youth development and mentoring best practices.
  • Excellent group facilitation and curriculum design skills.
  • Ability to coach and support youth mentors in leading peers or younger participants.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; able to coordinate logistics for multiple programs.
  • Skilled in conflict management and creating safe, inclusive group environments.
  • Effective communication skills—both verbal and written.
  • Comfort with data entry, tracking, and program evaluation (Salesforce experience a plus).
  • Cultural competence and ability to engage effectively with diverse youth and families.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to support program delivery.
  • This position operates in a hybrid environment that includes office work and frequent presence in community and event settings. The role requires the ability to set up and break down outreach and tabling materials, including lifting, carrying, and transporting items up to approximately 40–50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The position also requires extended periods of standing, walking, and engaging with the public at community events, as well as regular use of standard office equipment and technology such as computers, mobile devices, and phones. Reliable transportation is required to travel to community locations throughout the Twin Cities.

Responsibilities

  • Own program design and partnership relationships by going beyond event logistics to shape the vision, content, and structure of programming. Lead the development of curricula, engagement approaches, and participant experiences while cultivating that expand opportunities for future readiness outcomes, align with program goals, and sustain long-term impact.
  • Develop and regularly update group and cascade mentoring curricula tailored to each age group (elementary, middle school, high school, and adult and teen volunteers).
  • Deliver program goals, measurable outcomes, and success indicators.
  • Create structured session plans (e.g., icebreakers, skill-building activities, reflection prompts) aligned with best practices and our programmatic framework.
  • Support and staff specialized cohorts (Big Future Fund, , and other group mentoring initiatives) to enhance retention and engagement and other Big Future Events.
  • Collaborate with the Enrollment & Matching Team to coordinate and facilitate youth interviews for program eligibility.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement & Recruitment team to meet volunteer recruitment goals.
  • Lead the Matching and Match Support for all participants within the program
  • Collaborate with school liaisons for effective program-related communication
  • Collaborate with the Events Admin specialist for any logistical communication and data reporting needs
  • Provide consistent, high-quality case management to mentors, mentees, and families through regular communication, coaching, and check-ins.
  • Continually assess match quality, focusing on safety, relationship development, youth outcomes, and participant satisfaction.
  • Apply strategic interventions when challenges arise, supporting conflict resolution and re-alignment of expectations.
  • Maintain and implement accurate, timely, and professional documentation in the agency’s data system in accordance with BBBSTC standards and BBBS of America requirements.
  • Practice strong risk management and act as a mandated reporter, always prioritizing child safety.
  • Support the facilitation of group match introductions where Bigs, Littles, and their families meet for the first time—helping to establish initial connection, set a positive tone for the relationship, and clearly outline expectations, roles, and next steps for all three different programs.
  • Use data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for program improvement.
  • Maintain accurate data in agency systems (Salesforce and other tools as required).
  • Schedule and facilitate group mentoring sessions across assigned schools and community sites.
  • Manage logistics, including securing locations, preparing materials, and arranging transportation if needed.
  • Monitor group dynamics and maintain safe, supportive, and inclusive environments.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and role-modeling for high school mentors as they support younger mentees.
  • Observe group sessions to ensure consistent program quality and adherence to curricula.
  • Address challenges or conflicts promptly to ensure a positive experience for participants.
  • Provide mentors with constructive feedback and opportunities for skill development.
  • Collaborate and delegate to the Program Events Administrative Specialist for parent and volunteer communication, survey administration, and bi-annual newsletters.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with schools, community partners, and families to support program delivery.
  • Communicate program updates, needs, and progress with internal staff and stakeholders.
  • Align group and cascade mentoring efforts with BBBSTC’s strategic priorities and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments, including Events and Big Futures staff, to ensure strong youth pathways.
  • Maintain knowledge of community needs, resources, and networks
  • Communicate in a professional manner with external constituents
  • Work collaboratively to achieve results as specified in the strategic plan
  • Promote teamwork by overseeing and participating in various teams including work groups and interdepartmental meetings
  • Positively represent BBBS in the larger community
  • Support the Advancement Department in recruitment, fundraising, and communication efforts as needed
  • Support the Programs Department with agency-wide initiatives and events as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the agency in order to achieve the BBBS mission
