About The Position

Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club in Hillsboro, OR, is seeking a dedicated and professional Swim Instructor to join our team. This instructor will teach group lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-6:30, and Saturdays, 10 am-12:30 pm. Additional hours teaching semi-private and private clients become available with experience and strong performance. The role offers the opportunity to teach swimming lessons and promote water safety for adults and kids of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about helping others develop confidence in the water, whether guiding beginners through foundational skills or supporting experienced swimmers in refining their technique. Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills are necessary for teaching and interacting effectively with students.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to create engaging and impactful lesson plans.
  • Competency in holding a U.S. work Authorization is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience working as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
  • A current lifeguard or swim certification and/or teaching experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain engaging lesson plans tailored to group lessons, working within HFAC's guidelines to meet participants' needs effectively.
  • Provide swimming lessons to individuals of various ages and skill levels, emphasizing water safety and proper swimming techniques.
  • Regularly assess participants' progress.
  • Offer constructive feedback and guidance, progressing students on HFAC's swim levels.
  • Ensure a safe and hygienic aquatic environment through routine pool inspections, adherence to safety protocols, and enforcement of member policy.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Manager, fellow instructors and overall HFAC team to organize class schedules and special events, fostering a positive team dynamic.
