About The Position

River Edge offers outpatient services at our Emery Highway-Macon, Monroe County and Baldwin County locations. Outpatient services include behavioral health, nursing, and psychiatric assessment, stabilization and medication maintenance services as well as crisis intervention services as well as awareness, education and recovery groups. River Edge offers outpatient services at our Bibb, Monroe, Baldwin, and Fulton County locations. Outpatient services include behavioral health, nursing, and psychiatric assessment, stabilization and medication maintenance services as well as crisis intervention services to include awareness, education and recovery groups. River Edge offers a wide array of evidence-based mental health services for youth and adults journeying toward recovery. River Edge is especially skilled at assisting those with multiple challenges as well as promoting and supporting recovery for individuals and families with intensive needs. This position is for a Peer Specialist.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Worker, Criminal Justice or Human Service field.
  • Applicant most hold a valid Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification or obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Candidates must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or a dual diagnosis of mental illness and addictive disease, and a willingness to identify themselves as a person with mental illness (current or former consumer of mental health services).
  • Demonstrated strong reading comprehension and written communication skills, experience with leadership, advocacy, or governance, and be well grounded in your recovery (one year between diagnosis and application to the training).
  • Must meet the minimum qualifications for Peer Specialist as defined by the DBHDD Peer Specialist Project and/or Consumer Health Network.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.
  • Assists in dealing with personal and social problems.
  • May provide supportive counseling to consumers and families and/or serve as a liaison for social services.
  • Prepares lesson plans for group topics, maintains medical records and documents daily group notes.
  • Performs case management duties, and group skills training and refers clients to needed services and resources.
