About The Position

The Assistant Supervisor supports the Group Home Manager and Staff Supervisor in maintaining structure of the Teaching Family home. S/he is responsible for leading Youth Counselors and provides teaching, guidance, and supervision to youth to include: overseeing physical care, development of acceptable habits and attitudes, positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention, assistance with the upkeep of the physical environment, helping youth achieve mastery of identified goals and objectives, and the timely completion of required documentation. The Assistant Supervisor assists with training new employees and coordinating program or agency-wide events as directed. The Assistant Supervisor is on call approximately 2 days a week to support the needs of the home and during the paid time off of the Staff Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or psychology with two years of professional experience working with children (one year of which must have been in a residential facility for children)
  • OR
  • High School diploma/GED and a minimum of five years professional experience working with children (two years of which must have been in a residential facility for children)
  • Must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License with driving record in good standing, be able to successfully clear background checks associated with job, and must successfully complete in-house training.

Responsibilities

  • Sight and sound supervision and engagement of youth on and off-campus
  • Documents daily activities, behaviors, contacts, and interventions.
  • Provides a therapeutic, family-style treatment environment for youth according to the model and standards developed in the Teaching-Family Model.
  • Professional communication with teachers, parents, caseworkers, and probation offices, etc. for the youth.
  • Attends treatment team meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Assists with transportation such as youth employment, athletic events, doctor’s appointments, youth home visits, etc.
  • Works a two week rotating schedules with alternating evening and weekend hours.
  • Follows approved Behavior Support Plans and service places for each youth.
  • Embraces agency commitment to open communication in both giving and receiving information and feedback.
  • Supports staff supervisor with establishing and maintaining structure in the home (routine and consistent expectations)
  • Supports staff supervisor with safety and upkeep of home (monitor safety of physical space and condition of environment; take action to correct when needed)
  • Facilitates youth input and ensure youth voice is expressed at team meetings and in planning activities
  • Provides on-call support for Youth Counselors
  • Assist with training new staff for all homes during periodic new staff training sessions
  • Coordinate program-wide or agency-wide activities as directed
