Apply now and let's soar together at Blue Skies of Texas! As a Group Fitness Instructor, this position will work closely with residents to improve their quality of life through fitness and nutrition. Incumbent must be able to develop and implement individual and group physical fitness programs, conduct personal fitness assessments and basic health screenings, teach a variety of exercise classes, and provide assistance on weight machines and cardio equipment, to include addressing individual fitness needs and developing fitness programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available to work Fridays.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, understand the basic principles of exercise physiology, know the importance of physical fitness and proper nutrition for health and overall functioning, and be able to identify the proper body mechanics to be used during exercise as they apply to older adults
  • Current certification as a Group Fitness Instructor from a nationally recognized organization, current Zumba instructor license, as well as current cardiopulmonary resuscitation, First Aid, and automated external defibrillator certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Pilates/Yoga Instructor, Water Fitness Instructor (certification required, if assigned to teach water aerobics), and Group Fitness or Personal Trainer certifications, preferably specializing in senior physical fitness
  • Experience leading group fitness classes in a senior living or older adult environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches a variety of exercise classes to include strength training, cardio and flexibility type classes, and water aerobics.
  • Trains residents on safe and proper use of fitness and exercise equipment and offers assistance when needed.
  • Promptly reports any resident behaviors, health concerns, or physical injuries requiring attention, and uses universal precautions when administering care.
  • Works with physical therapist in referring residents for treatment and providing continuing therapy exercises.
  • Cleans fitness and exercise equipment as needed.
  • Ensures that individual and BST resident fitness goals and exercise needs are being met; assesses ability levels on an ongoing basis to validate overall health and wellness improvement.
  • Coordinates efforts with other departments to create a solid wellness and fitness operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
