About The Position

The Music and Creative Specialist will design and facilitate an engaging music-based therapeutic program to support clients in addiction and behavioral health treatment. This role blends musical expertise with creative expression techniques to strengthen emotional regulation, self-awareness, connection, and healing. The specialist will lead group sessions, support individualized therapeutic goals, and help clients explore music as a tool for recovery and personal growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5-10 years of experience working in music therapy, music education, or creative arts in therapeutic settings
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals in addiction recovery or behavioral health treatment programs
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful music-based programs
  • Songwriting Expertise: Strong songwriting abilities with the capacity to teach and mentor others in the craft
  • Recording Proficiency: Hands-on experience with audio recording equipment, software, and production techniques
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Musical Versatility: Proficiency in multiple musical instruments and various musical genres
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and rapport-building abilities with diverse populations
  • Improvisational Skills: Ability to facilitate and guide improvisational music sessions
  • Creative Writing: Strong creative writing skills and ability to guide others in lyrical composition
  • Trauma-Informed Approach: Understanding of addiction, behavioral health issues, and trauma-informed care practices

Nice To Haves

  • Music Therapy certification or training (MT-BC preferred but not required)
  • Experience with Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton
  • Background in multiple therapeutic modalities including expressive arts therapy
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in addiction and behavioral health treatment
  • Experience performing music professionally
  • Compassionate and non-judgmental approach to working with individuals in recovery
  • Creative problem-solver with adaptability to meet diverse client needs
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to create safe, supportive spaces
  • Passionate about the healing power of music and creative expression

Responsibilities

  • Head and oversee the comprehensive music therapy program for clients in addiction and behavioral health treatment settings
  • Design, implement, and evaluate music-based therapeutic interventions tailored to individual client needs
  • Develop creative workshops incorporating music, songwriting, and improvisational modalities
  • Create structured programming that helps clients cope with life situations through creative expression
  • Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions for clients in various stages of recovery
  • Guide clients through creative writing exercises that promote self-expression and emotional processing
  • Lead improvisational music sessions to build confidence, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills
  • Utilize songwriting as a therapeutic tool to help clients process emotions and experiences
  • Adapt therapeutic approaches based on client progress and individual treatment plans
  • Operate recording equipment to capture client-created music and creative works
  • Assist clients in recording their original songs and compositions as part of the therapeutic process
  • Maintain recording studio equipment and ensure optimal functionality
  • Create a supportive environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves musically
  • Collaborate with clinical team members, therapists, and case managers to integrate music therapy into comprehensive treatment plans
  • Document client progress, participation, and therapeutic outcomes
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute insights regarding client development
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations and organizational policies
