About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for keeping all communication tools current, coordinating events relating to group exercise classes, relationship building with members, assisting the Wellness Director in the practical evaluations of group exercise instructors, and creating quality fitness programs that meet member needs and results in a positive financial outcome at the Toyota Indiana YMCA. Requirements

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training is required on/before the first day of work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health and wellness or a related field, along with two or more years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and articulate and abide by Y policies positively.
  • Has strong member service with problem resolution skills that are handled in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner when dealing with members, program participants, and staff.
  • Possess strong computer skills as well as the ability to use social media effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Complete required abuse risk management training.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Ensure check-in procedures are followed.
  • Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and program participants.
  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, that align with the healthy living program goals and objectives.
  • Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  • Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping members and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and staff.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of equipment and facilities for group exercise classes.
  • Assist in the smooth operation of the group exercise department in day-to-day operations.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate group exercise instructors.
  • Develop and manage the branch group exercise schedule.
  • Promote YMCA membership by moving program participants from casual to connected to committed.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
