Within Global Tech, the International Store & Club Operations and Transactions domains are responsible for the technology platforms that enable associate workflows, inventory accuracy, pricing, merchandising, checkout, and payment experiences across international markets. Position Summary As Group Director, International Technology, you will provide strategic engineering, platform, and operational leadership across multiple, interdependent domains that support Walmart International’s most critical associate and customer experiences. This role is accountable for shaping and executing a multi-domain engineering strategy, governing architecture and delivery, and ensuring reliability, security, and scalability of Tier 0 and AI-enabled systems across global markets.You will serve as a senior technology leader and advisor, translating enterprise and Global Tech strategy into actionable roadmaps, aligning investment and capacity, and driving consistent engineering excellence. This role plays a critical part in advancing Walmart’s AI-first transformation while ensuring responsible, resilient, and cost-efficient adoption at scale.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading large-scale, multi-domain engineering organizations in a global environment.
  • Strong background in distributed systems, platform architecture, cloud-native design, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated success governing complex portfolios and cross-domain delivery.
  • Experience driving AI/ML adoption responsibly at scale.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to influence across business and technology leadership.
  • Passion for building inclusive teams and developing future technology leaders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 10 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ supervisory experience.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 7 years' experience in software engineering

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Engineering & Platform Leadership Translate enterprise and Global Tech strategy into an integrated, multi-domain engineering and platform roadmap. Align portfolios, platforms, technical debt, and capacity planning to customer and associate outcomes across international markets. Shape and influence engineering strategy at an enterprise level (P4 expectation).
  • Operational Strategy, Resilience & Reliability Own operational strategy for mission-critical software and AI-enabled services. Define reliability objectives, SLOs, and continuity strategies for Tier 0 systems. Drive DevOps maturity, incident management, cloud cost optimization, and resilient human-in-the-loop AI patterns.
  • Architecture & Solution Design Governance Establish and enforce reference architectures, design principles, and technical guardrails across distributed systems, data, and AI platforms. Review and guide major architectural designs to ensure scalability, performance, security, and reliability. Coach architects and senior engineers to design for long-term sustainability.
  • Program, Portfolio & Delivery Governance Govern a portfolio of complex, cross-domain, multi-quarter programs. Align roadmaps, manage interdependencies, and drive transparent execution and risk management. Leverage program management frameworks and GenAI tools to improve delivery predictability and decision-making.
  • Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement Set and raise the bar for engineering quality, code standards, and operational practices. Use data-driven metrics, experimentation, and legacy rationalization to improve speed, reliability, and platform adoption. Institutionalize best practices across domains through coaching and measurable outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Influence & Value Realization Act as a senior technology advisor to business, product, data, and program leaders. Translate complex technical trade-offs into business-relevant insights. Build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups around shared priorities, investments, and outcomes.
  • Talent, Culture & Associate Experience Build, develop, and retain a high-performing, diverse engineering organization. Mentor and coach senior leaders while fostering inclusive, collaborative team environments. Establish structured learning paths in architecture, AI/ML, and program leadership that promote continuous growth and well-being.
  • Innovation & AI Adoption Champion responsible adoption of AI/ML and agentic AI across products and engineering workflows. Identify high-value AI use cases, standardize tools and patterns, and track realized value and risk. Lead organization-wide change toward AI-first ways of working.
