About The Position

Responsible for performing various duties related to maintaining the grounds and landscaping at the College. Cuts and edges lawn areas using lawn mower, tractors, weed eaters, edgers or other lawn maintenance equipment. Maintains areas of campus with ornamental plants by hand weeding, pruning, trimming trees and shrubs. Installs landscaping materials including sod, plants, mulch and trees to provide neat and attractive grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some related experience
  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
  • Skilled in: Delivering a high level of customer service
  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
  • Ability to: Use a variety hand and power tools, machines, and equipment
  • Regular physical attendance required
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds
  • Reach and grasp objects
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skill
  • Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color
  • Communicate information orally and in writing
  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication
  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level and other conditions
  • Operate a motor vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Maintains areas of campus with ornamental plants by hand weeding, pruning, trimming trees and shrubs.
  • Installs landscaping materials including sod, plants, mulch and trees to provide neat and attractive grounds.
  • Performs general clean up or grounds keeping duties according to the needs of the department.
  • Hauls collected debris to onsite refuse collection location.
  • Places cigarette urns in appropriate areas on campus, replaces broken urns and changes urns as required.
  • Washes related equipment and vehicles used within the scope of the job as needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on college vehicles such as checking battery and radiator fluid levels restoring water or other fluid when necessary.
  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Reports any observed problems to supervisor.
  • Keeps department and campus facilities in clean, litter-free and in an orderly condition.
  • Maintains and cleans various college areas such as parking lots and external building areas.
  • Follows established safety practices. Maintains and perform in a safe workplace.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
