About The Position

Primarily responsible for maintaining the appearance, health, safety, and effectiveness of grounds, waste management, and recycling programs on NYU owned, leased, and licensed properties.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
3+ years of work experience in grounds maintenance
Has a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Technician License Class 3(a), for Ornamentals and Turf
Certified Citizen Pruner from Trees New York, or is able to obtain it within 90 days of hire
Good general knowledge of proper horticultural practices related to installation and maintenance of grounds including planting of herbaceous and woody plants, fertilization, pruning, and weed removal
Good general knowledge of plants indigenous to the Northeast
Good general knowledge of botanical nomenclature of native and commonly used exotic plant species
Good weed identification and removal skills
Good general knowledge of best practices in recycling, and NYU recycling policies in particular
Good general knowledge of best practices in composting food and garden waste
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a truck and a snowplow
Ability to safely operate power tools (e.g., mowers, tillers), to carry heavy loads, to dig a proper hole, and to work on ladders and scaffolds
Good communication skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions
