About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $33,902.00 - $59,327.00 This is a REPOST. Previous applicants are still under consideration and do not need to reapply. This position at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. This is skilled supervisory work in the upkeep of lawns and grounds surrounding state institutions or buildings. Positions furnish technical guidance and supervision to grounds crews engaged in the construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas. Work assignments involving the standard application of horticultural practices are performed under general supervision. Projects involving technical horticultural knowledge and application are outlined by the grounds superintendent who reviews the project during progress and upon completion for acceptable workmanship and adherence to project plans. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the horticulture practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds.
  • Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscape work.
  • Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes.
  • Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
