Grounds Supervisor I - (Harnett CI)

About The Position

Reporting to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III, this position handles the design and upkeep of lawns, landscaping, and grounds surrounding a medium custody level correctional institution. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Completing work assignments received from MMS work order system and the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor. - Mowing, edging, removing leaves, trash, and snow, and trimming trees and shrubs as required. - Applying pesticides and selecting plants and trees which are adaptable to the local climate. - Sketching landscape plans for undeveloped areas, locating plants, trees, sidewalks, roads, etc. - Preparing requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment needed for grounds department and providing cost estimates for expenditures to maintain the grounds and equipment. - Ensuring grounds equipment has up-to-date service records and is cleaned regularly. - Making minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes - Supervising the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor (including offenders) and ensuring they are adhering to OSHA guidelines for safety.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of the horticultural practices and/or techniques applicable to the layout and/or upkeep of formal gardens and/or grounds.
Experience supervising employees or offenders.
