GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:The Grounds & Snow Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of assigned County properties and the repair and maintenance of associated equipment and systems. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work. Work is of a changing nature and initiative must be used to be able to handle different situations as necessary.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to follow safety rules, regulations and practices, including the ability to read at a standard high school level, enabling comprehension of warning labels and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment to include lawn mower, snow blower, grounds sweeper, and snowplows.
  • Ability to apply pesticides/herbicides as part of an integrated management program.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment common to grounds maintenance.

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
  • Possession of a valid Class “R” Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
  • Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.
  • Successful completion of bi-annual Colorado Justice Information System (CJIS) training.
  • Position is deemed essential and incumbents must be available for winter storms and other emergency events. Available to work on-call on a rotational basis including evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Work locations and facilities are subject to change based on business need.

Nice To Haves

  • Training or certification in landscaping, horticulture, grounds maintenance or another related field.
  • Landscape Industry Certified Technician or Certified Grounds Technician or Certified Native Plant Master.
  • Ability to safely operate a truck and trailer combination.

Responsibilities

  • Performs overall maintenance and upkeep of county lawns and plants, which includes but is not limited to; mowing, edging, watering of lawns and plants, planting, pruning, weeding and overall care of greenery. Maintains and cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
  • Sweeps/cleans walkways, stairs, garages, driveways as needed, utilizing brooms and various equipment.
  • Identifies, recommends, and oversees alteration projects as it relates to County grounds.
  • Maintains and repairs irrigation system and associated components such as but not limited to valves, backflow preventer, sprinkler heads, and time clocks.
  • Maintain and identify deficiencies in parking lots such as potholes, cracks, surface decay and perform maintenance or oversee contractors if needed.
  • May oversee and collaborate with contractors and vendors on various projects.
  • Inspects grounds and lots, documenting and providing management with reports of conditions and recommendations for improvements.
  • Performs snow and ice removal for assigned territory.
  • Maintain records and reports on inventory, equipment and the status of current projects.
  • Safely operate and maintain equipment including but not limited to County vehicles, mowers, blowers, string trimmers, sprayers, hand tools, power tools, and snowplows.
  • Performs/assists with building maintenance and repairs as needed.
