About The Position

Participate in the grounds maintenance, repair and beautification of municipal medians, streetscapes, landscapes and other City properties; perform turf mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, planting and watering and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Requirements

High school diploma or GED
One (1) year of experience in any combination of the following areas: parks maintenance grounds maintenance right of way maintenance landscaping
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a New Mexico Public Applicator License Category 3A, 3B and 6B within six (6) months from date of hire.

Landscape and/or grounds maintenance practices including care of trees and plants

Methods and techniques of turf management including pest control
Plant disease and pests common to the area and methods used in their eradication and control
Basic irrigation system installation and operation
Methods of preparing soils for planting and applying fertilizers and their usage
Operational characteristics of specialized maintenance equipment and tools
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Perform a variety of maintenance duties within assigned area of responsibility
Perform a variety of turf maintenance functions
Apply pesticides safely and responsibly
Operate a variety of power driven maintenance tools and motorized light and medium trucks and equipment in a safe and effective manner
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions independently
Communicate clearly and concisely
Train and direct a crew to perform landscape maintenance and beautification tasks
Write basic work reports and transfer data from one form to another
Learn to uses a computer and applicable software
Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
