About The Position

The Grounds Maintenance Worker at the Orlando Sanford International Airport, employed by the Sanford Airport Authority, performs a range of grounds maintenance activities to ensure the aesthetic appeal and safety of airport grounds. Work collaboratively to maintain landscaping, green spaces, and outdoor areas. Performing a variety of landscaping and groundskeeping activities, and providing preventative maintenance on the heavy equipment used, complying with instructions and prescribed routines, methods or procedures and involving the making of minor decisions. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of basic groundskeeping principles and practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a visually appealing environment.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine groundskeeping tasks, including mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning to maintain the appearance of airport landscapes.
  • Plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the visual appeal of designated areas.
  • Perform irrigation system checks and repairs to ensure proper watering of green spaces.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute landscaping projects, such as planting beds and beautification initiatives.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of outdoor areas, including parking lots, sidewalks, and public spaces.
  • Spray herbicides as directed in defined areas
  • Work from written and verbal work orders and diagrams.
  • Maintain certification for airfield access having completed the computer based training, and passing airfield familiarization of markings test.
  • Learn how to communicate with the Tower while working on the airfield.
  • Ride on mowers or work on airfield with a co-worker who is fully trained on the job.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Maintain assigned tractor.
  • Conduct pre-check and blow out tractor at end of shift.
  • Participate in activities to perform daily preventative maintenance on tractors. Grease, blow out filter, check radiator and tires, check fluid levels, check gear box, and sharpen blades.
  • Perform landscaping activities as assigned including installing plants, mowing with tractor or boom mower, edging, weed eating, trimming bushes and trees, or irrigation repairs.
  • Maintain constant contact with tower when in safety areas.
  • Monitor and report any safety hazards, damages, or issues related to airport grounds.
  • Comply with safety procedures and guidelines while working in designated areas.
  • Coordinate with other airport departments to ensure seamless collaboration and overall site maintenance.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
