About The Position

Grounds Maintenance Supervisor The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the care and presentation of assigned campus landscape areas to ensure they remain clean, safe, and visually welcoming. This role supervises student and part-time staff while coordinating daily landscape operations including turf, plant material, irrigation, and seasonal maintenance. Through hands-on leadership and attention to detail, the supervisor helps support a campus environment that reflects the standards and mission of Brigham Young University.

Requirements

  • 4 years of grounds maintenance experience and experience managing, mentoring, and training employees.
  • Pass a post-offer physical exam and lift test.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Follow safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Work courteously with university employees and visitors.
  • Maintain effective computer and record-keeping skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of grounds maintenance experience and experience managing employees
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in landscape maintenance or a related field
  • One or more licenses and/or certifications: Pesticide Applicator license Master Gardener certification QWEL (Quality Water Efficient Landscaper) ISA (International Society of Arborists)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily care of assigned campus landscape areas including turf, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, irrigation systems, and hard surfaces to maintain a clean, safe, and visually excellent environment.
  • Supervise student employees and part-time staff, including onboarding, training, scheduling, and mentoring.
  • Plan and execute routine and seasonal landscape work such as mowing, pruning, aeration, irrigation inspections, and flowerbed care.
  • Monitor irrigation system performance, perform basic repairs and adjustments, and report larger issues.
  • Identify and communicate plant health concerns including pests, disease, and landscape damage.
  • Support seasonal snow removal operations, including on-call response to ensure safe campus access.
  • Maintain tools and equipment readiness through inspections and basic preventative care.
  • Coordinate with specialty teams and campus partners to support events and contribute to a welcoming, well-maintained campus environment.
