About The Position

As a Summer Seasonal Laborer, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our parks, ensuring that visitors can enjoy a safe and clean environment throughout the sunny season. You will be responsible for performing a variety of general park maintenance duties and small construction projects. The hours of the position vary but will be scheduled typically between the hours of 6:00am to 6:00pm, and weekends as needed, for a period of time less than 25 weeks.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the park district policy.
  • Must be available weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.
  • Ability to assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
  • Willingness to use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to promptly report all unsafe conditions to your supervisor immediately.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the field of groundskeeping is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Mow grass, clean grounds, prepare picnic shelters, maintain ball diamonds including marking sports fields and perform related maintenance tasks.
  • Understand and implement the district’s mission and values statements as created and approved by the Park District Board.
  • Plant and maintain trees and shrubs pull weeds.
  • General road repair, gravel road maintenance and any related tasks.
  • Assist with carpentry, painting, repair, and paint park and playground equipment.
  • Operate a Park District golf cart and/or gator.
  • Actively support the safety program, and obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program.
  • Promptly report to supervisor all accidents/injuries occurring within the course of employment, no matter how minor. Cooperate and assist in the investigation of any accidents.
  • Work closely with co-workers, general population/park patrons in public areas.
  • Must be able to work under supervision.
  • Assist other Park District staff as needed.
