About The Position

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a reliable and experienced Grounds Crew Lead to join our Grounds team. In this role, you will provide daily leadership and basic supervision to Grounds Crew members, ensuring the campus grounds remain safe, attractive, and well-maintained. You will perform and oversee maintenance and repairs on landscaped areas, parking lots, roads, fencing, and drainage systems, as well as install, renovate, and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds. Additionally, you will maintain, repair, and enhance exterior athletic and recreational facilities, manage trash removal and waste receptacles, and provide emergency response to exterior hazardous conditions as needed. The position also supports campus special events, including set-ups and various building service functions. The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, and committed to maintaining high standards of campus appearance, safety, and overall functionality.

Requirements

Minimum of two (2) years of prior supervisory experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to comprehend instructions and respond effectively.
Ability to operate a standard shift vehicle safely.
Proficiency in operating all power equipment related to grounds maintenance.
Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance, horticulture, cement work, and related tasks.
Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and work safely in overhead areas.
Physical ability to lift and carry grounds equipment or supplies over short distances and to push or pull various grounds maintenance equipment.
Strong eye-hand coordination to safely and effectively operate equipment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.
Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers.
Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence): More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
