About The Position

The Grossing Technician at Essentia Health, located in Building B - St Marys Medical Center, Department: 2992030 PATHOLOGY - IL, is responsible for the appropriate accessioning and labeling of surgical specimens. This role involves performing surgical gross examinations of small uncomplicated specimens and preparing gross tissue for frozen section. The technician also provides additional support to Pathologists and/or Pathologists' Assistants as needed. Travel may be required to support sites with frozen section needs. The position operates on a Day/Eve Rotation, with shifts typically from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm, and does not require weekend or holiday work.

Requirements

Individuals must be qualified as high complexity testing personnel under the CLIA regulations
An associate or bachelor degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution
Other route that qualifies for high complexity testing personnel under the CLIA regulations

Responsibilities

Responsible for appropriate accessioning and labeling of surgical specimens
Perform surgical gross examinations of small uncomplicated specimens
Prepare gross tissue for frozen section
Provide additional support to Pathologists and/or Pathologists' Assistants as needed
Maintain specimen integrity and identification according to established laboratory policies and procedures
Assist with answering phone calls and communication of suboptimal specimen inquires
Maintain daily gross room inventory and stock supplies/benches
Responsible for instrument troubleshooting and maintenance related to grossing equipment
Job duties may also consist of embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining procedures, IHC and ISH, and Mohs for the treatment and management of pathologic conditions on patients of all ages
