About The Position

This position serves as the Administrator of Inmate Grievances and Inmate Discipline for ADCRR. This position directly supervises the Administrative Services Officer 2 (ASO2), two Administrative Services Officers 4 (ASO4) within the Office of the General Counsel, and may supervise additional employees, as needed. This position reports directly to the General Counsel or designee and requires working closely with Prison Operations. This position is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of ADCRR Department Orders 802 and 803. This includes, but is not limited to, monthly touring of ADCRR prison complexes and working closely with field staff, including grievance coordinators, disciplinary coordinators, disciplinary hearing officers, and any Unit Administrator. This position is responsible for gathering and producing data on many aspects of the grievance and discipline systems and conducting periodic audits of unit records/processes/dismissals of disciplinary cases. This position is also responsible for reporting on data-collection trends. This position has supervisory responsibilities. The individual who fills this position is responsible for making decisions to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations and must be able to work independently, obtaining supervisory approval as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information to the Attorney General's Office and may testify in Court for issues related to the inmate grievance process or inmate discipline process
  • Records and tracks inmate appeals activity for monthly and annual statistical reports, and provides recommendations for revisions to relevant department policies and procedures
  • Reviews and signs all of the grievance appeals and inmate discipline appeals produced by the ASO2 and ASO4s
  • Responds to inmate letters and inquiries from ADCRR staff related to grievance appeals and inmate discipline
  • Ensures adequacy of proof and that due process has been met
  • Investigates and reviews inmate grievance appeals, ensuring all administrative remedies are exhausted
  • Makes policy recommendations and revisions
  • Attends meetings
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the position
