About The Position

Big Bend Hospice (BBH) is your “Hometown Hospice” providing compassionate end-of-life care for over 40 years to the Big Bend region. Guided by our values of integrity, respect, and excellence, we are seeking an experienced Grief Support Counselor to join our team, providing bereavement services in Leon and surrounding counties. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, energetic, experienced professional who is passionate about providing grief support to bereaved youth and adults in a variety of settings. They will thrive in a flexible, community-based role that includes building relationships and offering grief counseling in Leon County and surrounding counties offering support in clients’ homes, local office locations, schools, and other community spaces. Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, Mental Health, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or Related Field.
  • Must have experience counseling youth
  • A minimum of two years of clinical counseling experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong clinical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates creative critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional rules and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Demonstrates comfort providing clinical support to individuals across the lifespan.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s EMS.
  • Most services are provided within regular working hours, but some evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates grief support groups and services for individuals, families, and youth.
  • Provides grief counseling, crisis support, referrals, and psychoeducation before and after a patient’s death as needed. This can include in-person counseling and telephone counseling.
  • Participates in care planning and IDG meetings to offer clinical insight on grief and bereavement.
  • Educates hospice staff and the community on grief and bereavement related topics.
  • Assesses bereavement risk and follows up per organizational policy.
  • Initiates referrals to support the care plan and address client needs.
  • Offers short-term counseling and community grief support as resources allow.
  • Plans and facilitates bereavement support groups and grief events for hospice and community members.
  • Supports youth programs including school grief support groups, camps, and holiday events.
  • Encourages families to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions.
  • Provides grief support to hospice staff when needed.
  • Offers bereavement counseling to families served by other hospices as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation per policy.
  • Manages schedule and productivity while remaining flexible to client needs.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, workshops, and clinical supervision.
  • Assists with volunteer training as needed.
  • Serves on hospice committees when assigned.
  • Follows professional and regulatory standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Acts as a liaison with community grief resources.
  • Provides educational presentations on grief, bereavement, and related topics.
  • Keeps licensure current and actively participates in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties that may be requested by the Team Managers, Bereavement Manager, and Director of Nursing.
