About The Position

Seasonal / Temporary – Greenways Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week
Enjoys nature, takes pride in the outdoors, and finds satisfaction in keeping spaces clean, safe, and accessible for the community.
What You'll Do You'll support the day-to-day upkeep and improvement of Fort Wayne's greenway trails-working outdoors to maintain safe, accessible, and enjoyable spaces for the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or current student (college preferred)
• Interest or experience in landscaping, maintenance, or outdoor work
• Ability to work independently and follow direction in a field environment
• Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with the public
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office); willingness to learn GIS tools

Nice To Haves

• Valid driver's license (if operating a City vehicle)
• Familiarity with hand tools and basic maintenance equipment
• Interest in trail systems, parks, or environmental work
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

• Inspect trails and collect data, including monitoring trail conditions and usage counters
• Perform light maintenance such as clearing debris, trimming vegetation, removing graffiti, and maintaining kiosks and signage
• Identify repair needs and recommend improvements to enhance trail safety and usability
• Assist with contractors, volunteers, and internal teams to coordinate maintenance efforts
• Update asset management systems and document trail conditions using iPad and GIS tools
