RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Water, weed, fertilize, transplant, prune and propagate plants. Prepare plant science laboratory materials. Prepare and press plant specimens Order and inventory supplies. Prepare potting soil. Monitor temperature changes and make necessary adjustments. Water plants on weekends as needed. Assist maintenance with watering. Apply pesticides and other chemicals as needed. Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position. Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices. SECONDARY - Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Department 2 Chairperson and/or the Agriculture Instructor. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of and experience working with plants and agricultural chemicals. The ability to work in an environment that includes pesticides and other chemicals. Physical requirements include the ability to walk, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds (soil bags); the ability to work in an environment with a variable temperature (average temperature is about 60 - 80 degrees). Physical requirements: Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; ability to perform keyboarding, enter data into a computer, operate office equipment, exhibit manual dexterity to operate office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; attentive to detail, accurately follow written and verbal instructions, work independently; the ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; medium/indoor work environment’ Moderate to heavy indoor/outdoor work environment. Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position. Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation. HOURLY WAGE and STATUS: The hourly rate of pay for this position is commensurate with qualifications as determined by the HutchCC administration. This part-time support staff position is 20 hours per week/12 months per year. This position qualifies for the KPERS Retirement Plan but does not qualify for additional benefits due to the part-time status – this position is non-exempt and at-will.
