About The Position

The proposed duties of this position will include a variety of field and office work opportunities to provide the intern with a diverse breadth of experience that could be applied to future conservation-related positions. The intern will focus primarily on delivering K-12 education programs, assisting with recreational education related to fishing and hunting, and helping to coordinate community outreach and volunteer activities.

Requirements

  • Major field of study relevant to the position, including arts, history, or education
  • Completion of two or more years of college-level course work.
  • Knowledge of or interest in conservation, wildlife management, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of or interest in fishing and/or hunting.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Good attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting park ranger staff in the implementation of Great Lakes environmental education programs for K-12 visitors and the general public.
  • Assisting with fishing and hunting education, including instructing others in how to fish and/or hunt and how to identify appropriate species.
  • Helping organize and facilitate community outreach events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Participating in visitor engagement and interpretation, providing information about refuge resources and conservation efforts.
  • Assisting with data entry and maintenance of records related to projects and visitor interactions.
