About The Position

This position is responsible for advancing organizational impact through strategic oversight of the grants portfolio, facilitation of cross-departmental projects, and development of systems that promote effective collaboration across House of Ruth Maryland and with external partners. The role requires collaboration with program, finance, and development staff to identify and pursue funding opportunities while staying informed about program activities, outcomes, and new initiatives. Additionally, the Grants & Strategic Funding Manager will disseminate topical research summaries and coordinate grant applications and reporting with the program, finance, data team, and grantor staff. Utilizing this knowledge, they work with the Grants Lead to translate information into timely and compelling proposals while ensuring adherence to deadlines.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in liberal arts or social services is preferred, along with four years of experience in a role that involves extensive writing or report preparation. Experience with budgets and financial documents is an advantage.
  • Candidates should have experience writing government, legal, corporate, and foundation applications that have successfully led to funding.
  • The ability to read requests for proposals (RFPs) and understand key components to convey to others is essential. It is also important to align proposals with the agency's needs and strategic focus.
  • Excellent English grammar, proofreading/editing skills, knowledge of proper citation styles, and strong oral communication abilities are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects involving systems analysis, data collection, and multi-team collaboration.
  • Must be adept at navigating change and aligning operations with evolving agency goals, and poses a deep commitment to social justice, equitable workplace practices, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Candidates must be organized, capable of working independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. They should also be able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and have an understanding of intimate partner violence and its impact on the client population.
  • Proficiency in computers is required, including knowledge of databases and the internet. Familiarity with Microsoft Word (advanced features), PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe software is preferred.
  • All candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • This position is eligible for remote work; however, some on-site work is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing all steps in the grant process.
  • Work closely with finance and development staff to support grant-related activities that build and maintain relationships with granting organizations. Assist with prospecting and research to identify government, foundation, and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Write grant proposals and applications, review them with project managers, and ensure that all criteria of the specific grant applications are met. Submit applications according to specific guidelines and within deadlines.
  • Maintain a close partnership and consistent communication with the Data team to address data needs for grant submissions and subsequent reporting and compliance.
  • Create and maintain a current library of data, statistics, and other information related to House of Ruth Maryland programs and the issue of intimate partner violence to support grant proposals.
  • Use Grantseeker software for tracking all grant applications, including potential opportunities, details of each proposal, responsible staff members, submission deadlines, pending applications, reporting requirements, and timelines for renewals.
  • Collaborate with program and finance staff to track the financial implications of grants by program, including amounts requested, awarded, and the allocation of funds.
  • Manage internal grant program correspondence, quarterly reports, and data-sharing processes to support external and internal relationship management.
  • Identify shared goals, gaps, and operational impacts of process and program changes across funding streams and House of Ruth Maryland programs.
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Development and Associate Director of Development to align development strategy with agency needs, survivor-centered goals, and community priorities.
  • Build systems to collect, prioritize, and respond to project and funding-related requests across the Development Team and partner teams.
  • Provide clear communications to project stakeholders and proactively identify and address risks or barriers.
  • Lead an agency-wide strategy for sustainable grant funding and collaborate interdepartmentally for philanthropic partnership support.
  • Participate in long-term program planning and outcomes measurement to align with field and funder trends.
  • Guide program leadership in identifying cross-departmental, complementary, and comprehensive funding needs and opportunities.
  • Supervise the Grants Lead.
  • Identify, recommend, and submit grants that align with House of Ruth Maryland programs.
  • Collaborate closely with program leadership to ensure timely reporting in line with grant requirements.
  • Prepare and present summary reports on grant-seeking efforts to agency directors and the leadership team.
