About The Position

The Grants Manager is responsible for the entire grants process for Museum of Glass. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, with a strong connection to the Development team, the primary function is managing, researching, preparing, and reporting foundation grants, government grants/contracts and corporate proposals, and sponsorships to support all elements of the Museum. The role generates multiple grant submissions per month, covering general operating support, specific program support, facilities and equipment, and more. The Grants Manager is responsible for problem solving, prioritizing and multi-tasking of assignments, requests and report deadlines. The role is fast-paced and on occasion requires responding to deadlines with short lead times. The role is not remote and is based in the Museum offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), with preference for English, marketing, communications, public relations or related field, eight years of proven fundraising experience and achievement in the areas of grants.
  • Experience managing multiple grants simultaneously.
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards; reflect optimistic and positive attitude and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently, but also able to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated superior writing skills with ability to write persuasive proposals.
  • Strong research skills to identify potential grants and understand the requirements and criteria for each one.
  • Strong financial skills to develop and manage budgets for grant proposals
  • Knowledge of local and national foundation community.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, administrators, donors, and volunteers in a diverse working environment.
  • Ability to project-manage multiple, concurrent projects across various departments, and to prioritize the same.
  • Ability to gather data from multiple Museum departments as needed.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of donor databases
  • Passion for the mission and goals of the Museum of Glass.
  • Demonstrate the initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote anti-racism, cultural competency, and an understanding of oppression and its impact.
  • Participate in intentional learning efforts, including events relating to understanding institutional racism and building cultural competency.
  • This position requires frequent sitting, standing and occasional walking; manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment; strong command of the English language with the ability to be understood.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a full range of activities required to research, prepare, write, submit and track funding proposals and reports that are responsive to donor guidelines, including:
  • Write persuasively about the Museum and its programs, showing how the Museum aligns with grantor requirements and priorities.
  • Prepare compelling reports to funders showing how the Museum executed on its programs and met donor priorities
  • Project manage grants, logging actionable deadlines and deliverables in a master calendar of grant opportunities.
  • Track grants applied for, grants awarded, report schedules, and budgets, and keep key staff aware of upcoming deadlines
  • Cultivate and steward funder relationships, serving as an ambassador of the organization
  • Perform ongoing prospect research on foundations, corporations, and government funding opportunities to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants and government contracts
  • Strategize potential matches between funding opportunities and MOG programs, events, activities and facility needs
  • Gather information from program staff to articulate goals, measurable outcomes, activities, successes, challenges, etc.; work with the Finance Director to gather information necessary to report on current grant programs
  • Monitor donor gift restrictions and ensure fulfillment of proposal/reporting guidelines
  • Maintain current, accurate records in donor database and paper files to track development data and proposals

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to draft corporate giving plans and timelines. Identify and cultivate prospects through meetings and presentations. Solicit corporate prospects for gifts as appropriate. Work with businesses to create and manage corporate recognition commensurate with gift commitments. 25%
  • Assist with creation of strategic goals for corporate, government and foundation contributions, budget planning and management 10%
  • Assist Development Team with other fundraising projects as requested, including events and sponsorships, and other duties as assigned in support of the Museum 5%
