About The Position

The Grants Manager is a member of the Philanthropy Team and is a liaison between the agency and its funders. The Grants Manager is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting , and managing grant proposals/reports that support agency goals and meet funder guidelines and criteria. This person serves as the primary grant writer, manages funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. This position requires strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills, with an emphasis on outcome measurement. Work in this position is often structured around deadlines and requires effort at a fast pace without sacrificing quality. This position is responsible for submitting a minimum of 90 grants, acquiring 20 new foundation funders, and raising $1,200,000 annually toward the Philanthropy Team's goal of $8.5 million .

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree preferred , Communications, English, or related field
  • Minimum five years of professional experience
  • Demonstrated analytical and persuasive writing skills experience , as well as superior editing skills, including ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience
  • Proficiency with applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook .
  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to clear the Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety & Adult Protective Services .
  • Ability to c omply with and pass all required background check and drug screening requirements , i ncluding but not limited to pre-employment and random drug screening as required/requested .
  • Valid AZ Driver's License and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy 5 0/ 100 level of car insurance coverage .

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity and experiencing working with Phoenix, statewide, and national funds is a plus
  • Knowledge of non-profit/social sector and/or experience working with underserved or disadvantaged populations is a plus
  • Previous experience with volunteer or donor management software is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes grant proposal development and submission-prepar es and organiz es materials for proposals , submit s and monitor s grant applications .
  • Research new funding and business development opportunities on a local, state, and national level.
  • Qualif ies prospective foundation donors regularly, routinely submitting letters of inquiry to develop a robust pipeline of prospective foundation donors.
  • Maintain s and build s relationships with funders and other strategic partners on a local, state, and national level.
  • Works closely with the Director of Philanthropy, Gift Officers, Volunteer and In-Kind Managers for overlap with corporate and corporate foundations funding opportunities.
  • Draft s proposals/LOIs, grant application narratives, and budgets and collaborate s to finalize with program staff, finance, and the Director of Philanthropy .
  • Submit s grant applications via paper or online portals and maintain s list of passwords.
  • Meet s with funders and UMOM staff to explore funding opportunities and fulfill site visit requirements.
  • Maintain s master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence.
  • Ensure s all contact information and donor communication is entered in Virtuous in a timely manner .
  • Maintain s library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board/staff diversity lists, etc.
  • Execute s thank you letters and facilitate s grant contracts/agreements.
  • Ensure s acknowledgment of funders/investors via website, e-newsletter, and social media.
  • Maintain s grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant budgets - tak es responsibility for meeting high standards of effectiveness, timeliness, and completeness.
  • Monitor s and maintain s funder and investor reporting schedules and requirements.
  • Track s progress toward organizational and programmatic outcomes and goals.
  • Draft s compelling progress reports and targeted program updates (e.g., blog posts, press releases, Facebook, and Twitter posts) to funders that fully capture programmatic success.
  • Assemble s all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.; submit reports to funders and investors.
  • Research statistics, trends and data for grant proposals and community advocacy .
  • Other duties as assigned by Leadership and/or executives .
