About The Position

The position is seeking applicants who can perform the work of an accounting generalist and who can also manage the financial aspect of grants. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong experience in grant compliance, fund accounting, and financial reporting. The position includes acting as a liaison between Development and Finance and preparing budgets for programs and grant applications. The Grants & Contracts Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial recordkeeping of grants and compiling financial data for the preparation of internal reports, compliance records, and grant billings. Success in this role will rely heavily on a strong knowledge of financial & fund accounting, an understanding of federal cost principles, and fiscal requirements for non-profits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Non-profit management.
  • Must have 3 years of experience in fund and grant accounting, reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment with a large variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrate knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, Federal OMB CFR-200 requirements, and G/L reconcilement practices.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Receivables.
  • Must be fully proficient in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Experience working with accounting system such as QuickBooks.
  • Comfortable taking initiative on process improvements.
  • Must have excellent organization, time-management, and task-management skills; able to manage competing priorities and remain agile in a constantly changing, deadline-driven environment.
  • Impeccable attention to detail; ability to maintain precision in work despite interruptions.
  • Ability to establish credibility, trust, and partnership at all levels of the organization.
  • Critical thinker with highly developed planning, analytical, creative resolution, and research skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage documentation of all government and donor-restricted contract files and ensure all required fiscal reports and invoices are prepared and submitted timely and in accordance with contract regulations and food bank policies.
  • Provide finance administration for the grants process throughout all stages including receiving, assessing, tracking, and assuring that submitted documentation meets all requirements.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Development and Programs to review grant budgets and ensure revenue and expenditures are on track.
  • Assist Grant Writer in grant funding budgets, applications, and closeout activities.
  • Support Client Services and Partner Services in budget assistance for programming.
  • Read, review, and understand various government contracts.
  • Monitor and perpetually revise the internal Funding Schedule to capture, properly allocate and determine the absorption of grants, government, and restricted donation funds.
  • Prepare cost reports as needed by other departments.
  • Interface with third parties during external audits and monitor reviews of various grants, as well as prepare the schedule of federal expenditures for the annual audit and prepare other related items requested by the audit team.
  • Generate invoices for external agencies.
  • Track and reconcile revenue and expenses on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
