About The Position

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity seeks a skilled and motivated Grant Writer to join the Development Department. The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, developing and writing compelling grant proposals, and ensuring timely and comprehensive reporting on awarded grants. This position plays a critical role in securing financial resources to support affordable housing initiatives and strengthen the organization’s long-term sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of successful grant writing experience securing foundation, corporate, and government funding.
  • Proven ability to manage the full grant lifecycle from research and proposal development through award and reporting.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong research, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant research/management platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in affordable housing, community development, or related nonprofit sector.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local government grant processes.
  • Experience using foundation research platforms (e.g., Foundation Directory, Instrumentl, Grant Assistant)
  • Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity’s mission and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Grant Research and Identification
  • Identify and evaluate grant opportunities from charitable foundations, corporate funders, and government agencies aligned with organizational funding priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic grant pipeline, including tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewal opportunities.
  • Monitor philanthropic and public funding trends related to affordable housing, community development, and workforce initiatives to inform funding strategy.
  • Grant Writing and Proposal Development
  • Develop and write clear, compelling, and persuasive letters of interest, grant proposals, and funding applications.
  • Partner with program staff to gather program data, impact metrics, narratives, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare program budgets and budget narratives in coordination with the Finance Department.
  • Tailor proposals to align with funder priorities, guidelines, and reporting expectations.
  • Manage the full submission process to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
  • Grant Management and Reporting
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive grant reports detailing program outcomes and use of funds.
  • Monitor grant deliverables, timelines, and compliance requirements to ensure adherence to funder agreements.
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready records of grant applications, awards, correspondence, and reports.
  • Communicate proactively with funders to provide updates and strengthen relationships.
  • Track and analyze grant performance metrics to demonstrate impact and support renewal opportunities.
  • Collaboration and Organizational Alignment
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Senior Director of Development, Development team, and program staff to align grant strategy with organizational priorities.
  • Contribute to development meetings and strategic planning discussions to support funding growth.
  • Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate tracking, allocation, and reporting of grant funds.
  • Support donor stewardship and funder communications as appropriate.
  • Maintain working knowledge of affiliate programs including Community Engagement, Volunteer Services, Workforce Development, ReStore, Construction, and Home Repair to inform grant narratives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
