About The Position

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To secure institutional revenue for Ayuda’s programs and to support Ayuda in effectively managing awarded grants. ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE Ayuda is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing direct legal, social and language access services, education, and outreach to low-income immigrants in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Since 1973, Ayuda has provided critical services on a wide range of issues, in the process acquiring nationally recognized expertise in several fields including immigration law, language access, domestic violence and human trafficking. Ayuda has office locations in Washington, DC, Silver Spring, MD and Fairfax, VA. WHY DO YOU WANT THIS JOB? That diversity and equality make this country better. WHAT WILL THIS JOB ENTAIL? Core responsibilities of the position include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Grant Writing and Proposal Development Write competitive government and foundation grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials Write accurate and informative reports for government and foundation funders Regularly update Ayuda’s internal bank of common grant language Create materials, such as slide decks, for funder meetings and communications in collaboration with Ayuda’s Communications Team Develop proposal plans for proposal planning meetings with program staff and program finance team Facilitate information sharing between Grants, Development, and Program staff for proposal and reporting development. Conduct prospect research for potential government and foundation opportunities Grant Administration Oversee Ayuda’s grant application pipeline to track proposal progress and funding statuses Maintain grant submission files and archive on Sharepoint Represent Ayuda at meetings and events with supporters and potential supporters, including site visits and cultivation meetings This position will be based primarily in our DC office, but will require occasional visits to the Maryland and Virginia offices. This position is hybrid and will include both in-person and remote workdays.

Requirements

  • Must be legally able to work in the United States and maintain proper work authorization throughout employment.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position presented in a general office environment.
  • 2+ years of grant writing experience or 3+ years’ experience as part of a development/fundraising team
  • Excellent writing and communication skills including: 1) demonstrated ability to write clear, structured and persuasive grant proposals; 2) a strong grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills; 3) ability to speak effectively about Ayuda’s programs and impact; 4) excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across programs
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines including: 1) ability to prioritize projects with various deadlines and requirements; 2) ability to seek answers independently using resources and available support; and 3) flexibility and creativity to adapt to changing situations
  • Technology Skills including: 1) ability to use databases; 2) skilled use of Microsoft office (Word and Excel) and Outlook email; 3) ability to use funder portals

Responsibilities
