About The Position

The Grant Writer is responsible for supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County's (BGCDC) grant revenue goals, working under the direction of the Director of Grants and Compliance. The candidate will conduct thorough research to find grant opportunities, write persuasive grant proposals to secure annual and multiyear funding, and collaborate with department heads to understand their financial and programming needs to ensure that we have sufficient resources to meet our annual objectives. The ideal candidate should possess excellent organizational and writing skills, be knowledgeable in project management principles, and have proven experience as a Grant Writer or in a similar role. The Grant Writer should also be flexible and adaptable, taking on additional responsibilities to support the organization's goals.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a minimum of one year in fund development, preferably in a non-profit environment, or a minimum of two years of grant writing experience.
  • Track record of receiving grants from funders of $5,000 - $100,000 and multi-year gifts.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.
  • Excellent knowledge of office management software (Google Suite, MS Office Suite).
  • Typical working hours, including required holidays and travel.
  • This position is classified as non-exempt and full-time regular, requiring availability during operational hours (typically 9 am-5:00 pm) to fulfill the essential duties of the role, which will include working on holidays, weekends, and evenings as necessary to support events. The position requires travel to off-site Clubs, meetings, and events.

Responsibilities

  • Grant Sourcing and Writing: 75%
  • Research and identify new government, corporate, foundation, and private funding prospects to achieve BGCDC’s organizational grant revenue goals in alignment with BGCDC's main areas of focus including our traditional Club needs, our Educational programming efforts through our AVID/TOPS program, as well as our skilled trades classes
  • Lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
  • Generate high-quality proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to requests for proposals consistent with all policies and procedures of BGCDC and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to research, develop, write, and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers, and grant proposals.
  • Administrative: 20%
  • Maintain grant calendar throughout the fiscal year.
  • Maintain current records in the customer relationship management database and in alignment with organizational record-keeping expectations, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain responsibility for tracking grant awards, notifications, reporting, deadlines and required submissions and proactively notifying stakeholders of timelines.
  • Meet regularly with department leaders to discuss current and new funding needs under the direction of the Senior Director of Grants & Compliance.
  • Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals.
  • Work with the finance department and Sr. Director of Grants and Compliance to create grant budgets.
  • Donor Relations: 5%
  • Assist in the facilitation of funder cultivation and stewardship activities, fostering meaningful relationships with supporters as assigned by the Senior Director of Grants & Compliance.
  • Contact potential funders through cold calls and/or email.
  • Prepare funder acknowledgments and appreciation as required or assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Grants and Compliance and the SVP of Development to clarify and coordinate donor relationship ownership across teams.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Director to engage current & potential funders via newsletters, promote on-site tours, invite to key Boys & Girls Clubs events, and encourage volunteering.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to acknowledge funders as required in grant acceptance contracts under the direction of the Compliance Director.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
  • Must be able to travel throughout Dane County. A valid WI driver’s license and insurance are required if using a personal vehicle.
  • Provide support in achieving approximately $4M grant revenue to support BGCDC's mission, vision, and programs. Responsible for fiscal stewardship of grant funds.
