About The Position

PURPOSE STATEMENT To secure institutional revenue for Ayuda’s programs and to support Ayuda in effectively managing awarded grants. ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE Ayuda is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing direct legal, social and language access services, education, and outreach to low-income immigrants in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Since 1973, Ayuda has provided critical services on a wide range of issues, in the process acquiring nationally recognized expertise in several fields including immigration law, language access, domestic violence and human trafficking. Ayuda has office locations in Washington, DC; Silver Spring, MD; and Fairfax, VA. WHY DO YOU WANT THIS JOB? Requirements

  • Must be legally able to work in the United States and maintain proper work authorization throughout employment.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position presented in a general office environment.
  • Experience in grant writing or nonprofit development, which can include internships, volunteering, courses, and/or training; 1+ year of professional work experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with data entry.
  • Experience in document and file management.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines including: 1) ability to prioritize projects with various deadlines and requirements; 2) ability to seek answers independently using resources and available support; and 3) flexibility and creativity to adapt to changing situations
  • Technology Skills including: 1) ability to use databases; 3) ability to use funder portals
  • Interest in working with program staff across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare narrative outlines and templates for grant applications and reports.
  • Create and prepare attachments for grant applications and site visits.
  • Create and upload documents to SharePoint, including grant summary sheets, to help Ayuda increase internal knowledge about grants.
  • Ensure that grant reports and funder communication are saved on SharePoint.
  • Assist in writing Letters of Intent (LOIs) and grant applications to foundations for general support and basic program support requests.
  • Research and organize external reports, studies, and media coverage relevant to Ayuda’s programs for use in grant reports and applications.
  • Manage and build Ayuda’s internal training resources on the grant writing and grant management process.
  • Conduct research on government grant and foundation funding opportunities.
  • Enter, review, and update data in proposal and reporting calendars using Excel and Ayuda’s grant database.
  • Run reports in the grant database and prepare monthly internal grant update newsletter.
  • Assist in tracking grant deliverables across Ayuda by reviewing grant reports and inputting data in Excel.
  • Lead training for Ayuda employees on grants (grants orientation for new employees and other trainings throughout the year).
  • Represent Ayuda at external meetings, informational sessions, and conferences with funders and potential funders.
  • Contribute to the development of Ayuda’s strategy to grow foundation and government grant funding.
  • Submit paper grant applications.
