About The Position

This position assists Principal Investigators in their Department/College by performing administrative and technical functions associated with grants, contracts, and other agreements from external funding sources. The grants administrator also serves as a liaison to the Office of Sponsored Projects ( OSP ), Institutional Review Board ( IRB ), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ), the Office of the Vice President and Research, and other campus entities as necessary. This position will be working within the pre-award office for the SVPHS Research Unit. The office is responsible for providing pre-award support for Basic Science Departments within the School of Medicine. The GCO position will work directly with researchers in the departments to prepare research funding applications. This work may include researching and answering questions about sponsor guidelines, being aware of and understanding new grant mechanisms, working with the researcher to create project budgets, assisting with formatting of applications, providing feedback regarding sections of the application, answering questions regarding University of Utah research policies and procedures, monitoring award status, and working with the departments and OSP to get new awards set up. This position is eligible for telework in a hybrid telework & in-person environment. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree + four years of related experience or 12 years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient with all the duties and responsibilities of a GCO III
  • Proficient with the full range of proposals submitted by the department. Proficient with the full range of award administration activities, including award set-up, modification, and maintenance.
  • Ensures federal compliance by reviewing procedures/policies. Provides recommendations for updates in procedures/policies.
  • Subject Matter Expert in a variety of GCO activities, including but not limited to general feedback on industry contract review, content contribution, etc .
  • Makes substantive contributions to trainings, process development, and unit resources
  • Consistently works on highly complex problems requiring independent action and decision making. Must determine best course of action to resolve problems and frequently makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field
