About The Position

As the Grant and Contract Administrator in the Research and Support Operations department within the Office of Research you will independently manage the administration of research proposal submissions and award review, including reviewing budgets, leading departmental staff and faculty system-wide, negotiating revisions to contracts, and developing and implementing processes and procedures related to research support. You will be responsible for program results and must regularly exercise independent judgment and discretion in the area of proposal submission and award review. You are additionally responsible for ensuring that all proposals and accepted awards follow applicable regulations and WSUpolicies and procedures; ensuring that the needs and priorities of the University are met; and minimizing the risk to the University to the extent practicable. As a member of the Grant and Contracts Team, the you will also draft and negotiate award agreements, contract agreements, and their respective amendments that are issued to subrecipients under federal and non-federal grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) years Grants and Contract Administration experience. Experience may include processing, negotiating, and/or the administration of agreements with funding agencies, including but not limited to, the federal government, businesses, non-profit associations, state governments, Indian Tribes, or private philanthropic foundations or outgoing sub- award/sub-contract agreements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to think critically and use good judgment.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A Masters or Professional degree in a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in sponsored programs administration or grants and contracts administration.
  • Experience with outgoing subcontract/sub-award administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies governing the administration of sub-awards, grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts at educational institutions.
  • Experience applying policies and procedures relating to intellectual properties administration or technology transfer within a research university setting.
