About The Position

This position supports the mission of Central Lakes College and has responsibility for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting and financial reporting for Federal, State, and local grants and programs. This position operates independently and is responsible for the full lifecycle of grant accounting from budget setup and monitoring, revenue management, internal/external reporting, to audit support. This position provides essential financial analysis and reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, MinnState policies, and state and federal regulations. This position will also analyze federal grant and financial/budget reports and interpret financial results for the Grant Director(s), Director of Budgets and Contracts Management, and Vice President of Administrative Services to support informed decision-making and fiscal accountability.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in a related field such as accounting or finance. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience and an associate’s degree may substitute for six (6) months.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
  • Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers, and other office equipment.
  • Skill in math sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data, and balance accounts.
  • Skill in customer service sufficient to respectfully engage with clients, coworkers, and customers, when handling difficult or complex problems and resolving escalated complaints or disputes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Three (3) years of practical experience in governmental accounting.
  • Knowledge of private or governmental accounting systems, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of financial status reports and budgets.
  • Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and maintain productive collegial and professional working relationship with both internal and external clientele.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota State accounting and student information reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of state and federal grant reporting processes.
  • Ability to interpret federal and state laws and departmental fiscal policies and regulations.
  • Personal and professional integrity and ethics.
  • Experience using database and presentation software.
  • Management skills including a thorough knowledge and understanding of higher education, the ability to identify and address problems, and the ability to plan.
