Role Description: The Grain Merchandising Intern will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of a grain elevator, gaining invaluable experience in grain procurement and sales. This role is perfect for a student with a passion for agriculture who wants direct interaction with farmer customers. The intern will learn the fundamental processes of grain merchandising, from contracting and hedging to on-farm visits. Additional housing stipend from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on work and candidate's location.

Requirements

  • Ability to quickly learn new computer programs and systems.
  • Strong desire to work directly with farmer customers and build relationships.
  • Basic knowledge of grain elevators and their functions.
  • Has taken coursework in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's program at an accredited college/university.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the purchasing and contracting of grain from farmer customers.
  • Learn and support hedging strategies to manage market risk.
  • Participate in farmer visits and yield checks to build customer relationships.
  • Work on a summer project to be determined, tailored to current business needs.
