About The Position

This position is responsible for the strategy and execution of the center’s grain purchasing and merchandising responsibilities. The Grain Merchandiser position involves managing strategic customer and supplier relationships, maintaining competitive advantages, and facilitating product shipment and delivery through strong sales and communication skills. Profitably originate and merchandise grain in accordance with Kokomo Grain policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Proactive development and coverage of existing customer and supplier accounts and development of prospective accounts.
  • Obtain market knowledge and insight through continuous communication with product suppliers, customers, and transportation vendors.
  • Implement hedging and other risk management methods and techniques applied to trading positions based on profitability, market trends, and account history.
  • Facilitate and schedule logistics for timely product delivery using rail and truck transportation modes.
  • Obtain and develop merchandising skills to provide a base for future opportunities within Kokomo Grain Co., Inc.
  • Develop, monitor, and report to management on personal and location origination goals and objectives.
  • Monitor customer positions utilizing the Kokomo Grain accounting system.
  • Learn and follow the trade rules of NGFA (National Grain and Feed Associates).
  • Make farm visits to customers and prospects. Conduct customer and prospect meetings.
  • Maintain a high level of market intelligence through monitoring of competitive bids, policies, and procedures, and report this information to management.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor location grain position using the Daily Position Report.
  • Report activities to location management and corporate management on activity.
  • Develop performance goals and metrics for business activity and personal growth.
  • Participate in grain trade and production agriculture organization meetings and activities.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
