About The Position

The National Laboratory of the Rockies’ (NLR) cybersecurity research is strengthening our grid against tomorrow's threats. This successful candidate(s) for this role will support research efforts within the Cybersecurity Research Center’s research portfolio, contributing to research on topics including, but not limited to: Characterization of the potential for U.S. electric grid disruption from natural hazards and human threats Assessment of the cybersecurity of distributed energy systems Strengthening the resilience of the U.S. electric grid

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months.
  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Please Note: You will need to upload official or unofficial school transcripts as part of the application process. If selected for position, a letter of recommendation will be required as part of the hiring process. Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
  • Must have completed a bachelor’s degree and either: be enrolled in or recently graduated from a master’s program, or currently enrolled in a PhD program in cybersecurity, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and related fields
  • Demonstrated experience in coding languages such as, Python, GO, and Rust
  • Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft 365 products
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with researchers in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with cybersecurity, such as national competitions, hackthebox, or cybersecurity-related certifications, is a major plus
  • Prior work in the electric power, IT security, software development, or significant hands-on-hardware in a laboratory or field setting is a major plus
  • Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance
  • Prior experience publishing research papers

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with cybersecurity testing either using hardware equipment or in virtualized environment
  • Simulation and emulation of experiments related to cybersecurity and resilience using NREL Cyber Range
  • Data analysis, virtualization, visualization, and reporting
  • Performing literature reviews and background research
  • Publishing research results in reputable conferences or journals
