The Graduate Nurse role is an orientation program, with a maximum duration of forty-five (45) days, designed for individuals who have recently graduated from a recognized School of Nursing. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the Graduate Nurse initially performs less skilled clinical nursing practice and progresses to independent performance of skilled nursing care procedures through performance evaluations. This role involves ongoing observations, assessments, and nursing actions to identify patient needs, utilizing sound professional judgment and Graduate Nurse-level expertise. Upon successful completion of the Michigan Registered Nurses Licensing Examination, the Graduate Nurse will automatically promote to the classification of General Duty Nurse. The position also involves participation in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities, compliance with safety and infection control standards, and performing duties in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. The Graduate Nurse works under the direct supervision of a departmental/unit manager or designee.
