About The Position

The Graduate Nurse role is an orientation program with a maximum duration of forty-five (45) days. In this role, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the Graduate Nurse initially performs less skilled clinical nursing practice and then progresses to independent performance of skilled nursing care procedures through performance evaluations. The position involves performing ongoing observations, assessments, and Nursing actions to identify patient needs utilizing sound professional judgment and Graduate Nurse-level expertise. Upon successful completion of the Michigan Registered Nurses Licensing Examination, the Graduate Nurse will automatically promote to the classification of General Duty Nurse.

Requirements

  • Sound professional judgment and Graduate Nurse-level expertise.
  • Successful completion of the Michigan Registered Nurses Licensing Examination (required for promotion to General Duty Nurse).

Responsibilities

  • Initially performs the less skilled work of clinical nursing practice under supervision.
  • Progresses to independent performance of skilled nursing care procedures through performance evaluations.
  • Performs ongoing observations, assessments, and Nursing actions to identify patient needs utilizing sound professional judgment and Graduate Nurse-level expertise.
  • Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards.
  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
